Stockholmsmässan Exhibition and Convention Center Stockholm, Sweden International Society Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) 2015 Meeting
Hair surgeon, Dr. Ken Williams, of the Irvine Institute of Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery (IIMCS), attended the ISSCR annual meeting in the historic city of Stockholm. The ISSCR is the premier international society for stem cell science, and an organization devoted to international approaches to advance medical research to find new therapies for human medical disorders.
The ISSCR Annual Meeting provided an opportunity for scientists, clinicians, educators and industry professionals to share new data, learn from peers, and discover global advances within the stem cell field. With approximately 3000 professionals from 55 countries in attendance, the ISSCR 2015 Annual Meeting is the single largest global source of innovations and science for medical treatments of tomorrow.
Dr. Williams and affiliated medical groups in Boston and Seattle are the first dedicated medical and surgical hair surgeons to provide stem/stromal cell therapy for hair loss in men and women. “Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC) from the patients own fat tissues represents a large reservoir of stem/stromal cells available for regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies,” states Williams. He adds, “the conference was one of the largest medical conferences I have ever attended, full of up-to-date information.”
Dr. Williams is one of the first hair surgeons in the United States to introduce biocellular therapy using stem/stromal cells for hair loss in men and women. This novel medical therapy is based on adding growth factor and cytokine rich Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to the biocellular enriched Stromal Vascular Fraction (cSVF) from a small lipoaspirate procedure(LAP). This procedure obtains fat containing stem/stromal cells that is then processed in a closed sterile system and subsequently injected into the scalp of men and women experiencing hair loss.
Patients suffering from other forms of hair loss such as Alopecia Areata and Cicatrical Alopecia are also being treated using these new cellular therapies. As with all medical or surgical therapies, clinical results vary from one patient to another, and no guaranteed results can be made.
