Busan, South Korea 2015 8th Annual World Congress of Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cell (RMSC)

March 19-21, 2015

Dr. Ken Williams of the Irvine Institute of Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery (IIMCS), attended the RMSC annual scientific meeting in the modern South Korean coastal city of Busan. The RMSC is an annual stem cell conference attended by academic-based scientists and clinicians from Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. The goal of the event was to advance regenerative medicine and stem cell science.

Dr. Williams lectured on “Intradermal Injection of Autologous Stem Cell Therapy for Hair Loss-A Novel Approach” in Session 303-Stem Cells in Cosmetology and Plastic Surgery. His lecture was composed of a Power Point presentation and surgical video of how the procedure is performed. It was well received by his academic and clinical peers as the first and a one-of its kind novel approach for regenerative treatment of hair loss disorders in men and women.

Patients suffering from hair loss including Alopecia Areata and Cicatrical Alopecia are being treated using these new biocellular therapies. As with all medical or surgical therapies, clinical results vary from one patient to another, and no guaranteed results can be made. These therapies are new and lack any published data to their efficacy. The treatment programs are autologous and safe. A closed sterile system transfers Platelet Rich Plasma and Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRCs) from the adipose Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) to the scalp of patients via multiple intradermal injections. The patient’s stem cells are removed and separated from the fats cells, and then are injected the very same day without any manipulation or expansion under a local anesthetic in an office setting.

Dr. Williams and affiliated medical groups in Boston and Seattle are the first dedicated medical and surgical hair surgeons to provide stem/stromal cell therapy for hair loss in men and women. Williams said, “Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC) from the patients own fat tissues represents a large reservoir of stem/stromal cells available for regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies.” He adds, “the Busan Korean conference was the first conference where I gave a lecture on this novel approach to treating hair loss in men and women with Adipose Derived Stem/stromal cells. The academic Ph.D.’s really were enthusiastic in the translation of their academic laboratory based publications to actual patient applications of therapy.”
