The AMA continues to be an advocate for patients and physicians at the national and state levels to ensure the important issues in medicine today including medical liability reform, increasing access to medical care, improving public health, and managed care reform. Membership in the AMA is dependent upon following and adhering to the AMA Code of Medical Ethics. The AMA was founded in 1847 and is responsible for many of the great reforms that made the USA the leading force in medical innovations and change through the last one hundred years.
