Hair Transplant Cost

The cost of hair transplantation will vary from one surgeon to another. The primary factor on cost depends on the harvesting technique you choose. For example, FUE harvested hair transplants are typically more expensive than traditional Strip technique because it is more time consuming and technically demanding. In some instances, FUE can be twice as expensive than Strip harvesting.

Price is also determined by the total number of grafts required to create a full natural appealing cosmetic appearance. It is common practice that the surgical fee per graft costs decreases with larger size cases than compared to smaller cases. Last but not least, hair transplant cost is largely dependent on the doctor’s experience and expertise. The price differential can be as much as 50% or more depending on the surgeon you choose.

The surgical fee for a hair transplant is generally more expensive in the USA and Europe than compared to countries where cosmetic tourism exists. Caution must be given to patients seeking hair surgery outside western societies and countries. This caution is based on many adverse outcomes observed with hair transplant surgeries performed by clinics without the appropriate training or expertise. Results are often permanent poor cosmesis, infections, and even rarely death.

When it comes to making a hair transplant decision, we encourage patients to make a decision based on all factors, and not the price alone. The patient needs to feel comfortable with the expectations and cosmetic outcomes of what the surgeon can provide. There are many physicians in private practice who are not competently trained to performed hair restoration surgery. More importantly, they do not apply the Hippocritic oath to practice. That oath is to “do no harm” and always put the best interests of the patient above personal financial interest.
